Pension outlay for Army in Budget is unsustainable: CDS Gen Bipin Rawat

Ascend in spending cost for annuities of military work force is "impractical" and three administrations are leading an investigation to break down the achievability of broadening the retirement time of jawans till 58, said India's first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat on Tuesday.
Armed force comprises of two classifications, officials and jawans, and the previous can resign between 54-58 years old. "He (official) is very secure till the age of 58. At that age, his youngsters are commonly settled or are going to settle. Issue isn't there. The issue is with men (jawans)," the CDS told the journalists.
Having enrolled jawans at the age of 18-19, the Army sends them out on retirement at the age of 37-38, he said. "At that age, he abruptly understands that his compensation has been cut considerably and his free lodging, and reasonable human services and instruction is gone," he included.
"I figure 33% of the Indian Army can go till 58. Today, you are sending a chap home at 38, and he lives till around 70. In this way, for a long time of administration, you allow 30-32 years of annuity. Why not allow him 38 years of administration and afterward allow him 20 years of annuity? We are alter the course," he referenced.
The guard spending plan was expanded to Rs 3.37 lakh crore for 2020-21 against a year ago's Rs 3.18 lakh crore, belying desires for an altogether upgraded distribution to quick track long-pending military modernisation.

The CDS stated, "Are you making the best decision by sending a jawan home at the age of 37-38, saying 'I needn't bother with you pal', however I am giving you some benefits as you are going away?...He has joined the Army, he has given 15-16 years...I feel, where is the issue in the jawan likewise serving till 58 years."...READ MORE
